Sucker Punch tells the story of Baby Doll, a young girl trying to save his sister from abuse and mistreatment of his father, a grave mistake that sends directly to a psychiatric hospital. This is where the blonde begins to seek ways to obtain his release through a fantasy world (and ultraviolent) that she imagines. In his plan to escape from the institution that holds her captive, Baby Doll call on the help of other inmates who also yearn to be free again.
The story is merely pulled and there is much to discuss about it. Grateful that the story tries to convey a message, but it lost in such a blast, dragons and whatever else occurs to mamarrada Snyder. Not only that, but the oscillation between the real and the imaginary world of Baby Doll is transformed into an exercise as a crossroads and confusing that the viewer ends up losing its obscure, pretentious and poor script. Of actions or talk. A cardboard box manages to convey more feeling and is able to recite the dialogue better than Emily Browning. And surprise, and probably disappointment for others, Carla Gugino not around naked in the movie. I mention this because I do not remember the last movie where there is complete Gugino topless. Maybe Spy Kids? Visually, the film is very good and perfectly matches the hype and unlikely director. However, I think there is nothing new in this last aspect that makes the film stand out from the others. Just as we saw here and we had seen before in 300 , Watchmen, Sin City , etc. Sucker Punch just seems recycled from other films visual style and although it does very well, is not that something that makes it look new.
Ultimately, the film fulfills its purpose of entertaining and I'm sure you'll have a good time if you go to the movies with the aim of seeing a movie that forces you to think long and be able to enjoy your popcorn and soda. Definitely this film genre is not one of my favorites but I must admit that the film is entertaining and is not as bad as the critics has made him known. Now we just have to wait what will happen when Zack Snyder take the reins of the new project to revive the Superman franchise. Will continue to prefer style over substance or will the director be able to find the right balance to combine a good story with a fair dose of visual extravagance?
